Jenn Chow’s Trip
June 10, 2022 to June 18, 2022
New Orleans and Wallace, LA; Jackson, MS; Little Rock, AK; Memphis, TN; Birmingham and Montgomery, AL
This summer I will embark upon another Civil Rights tour, this time through the South. If you've journeyed with me over the last three years, you know I went on an Asian American pilgrimage in 2019 unpacking my own Asian heritage but also learning about the suffrage, diversity, and strength of my Asian brothers and sisters. That experience was life-changing and a catalyst to finding my voice and strength as an AAPI woman.
In 2020, I was set to go on the Southern Civil Rights Tour and was mostly funded but was cancelled due to pandemic. The trip is back on and I feel my next step in my learning journey is to go on the Southern Civil Rights tour where we will follow some of the freedom rides through the South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama.
As an intentionally gospel-centered, multiethnic, intergenerational church, we desire to develop leaders who can contribute and shape the conversation the world has had about race, racism, and reconciliation for decades. This trip will cultivate a deeper understanding of the intersecting dynamics between American history, the church, and race and specifically evaluate these items through the lens of the Gospel.
Scripture tells us that "the truth shall make us free". I am embarking on this journey to understand racism at its deepest level to recognize its roots as a spiritual evil that can lead us to true repentance and forgiveness which will indeed, set us free.
Will you join me in truth-seeking?
1) You can pray for me in this process. Pray over the trip, pray for those that will join me. Prayers for our Center for Racial Reconciliation. This is hard work and a commitment to embark on this journey, but the learning and growth of it will be so worth it.
2) Partner with me financially. This can be by donating or by sharing with your family and friends and on social media platforms and asking others to contribute. Pray for the funds to come in, even if you cannot contribute.
I will continue to be a storyteller and look forward to sharing my journey with you and being a grace-filled voice in conversations or race relations and reconciliation. Shalom.
